Kearsley Rehabilitation & Nursing Center Named Among Best Nursing Homes 2021-22 for Short-Term Rehab

February 2, 2022

Kearsley Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in West Philadelphia has been named among the Best Nursing Homes 2021-22 in the short-stay rehab category by U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, the 96-bed skilled nursing facility, which provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care, remains focused on addressing in-demand area healthcare needs, recently introducing onsite ear, nose and throat specialist (ENT) services as part of its Respiratory Therapy programming.

Kearsley, which maintains a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is a repeat recipient of the U.S. News Best Nursing Homes distinction. The short-term rehab rating evaluates a nursing home’s quality of post-acute care for patients recovering from a hospital stay. The publication evaluated over 15,000 nursing homes for this year’s rankings.

Kearsley’s Respiratory Therapy programming is integral in all levels of care for residents at the facility, including higher-acuity respiratory patients. It features a full-time respiratory therapist on staff and regular ENT physician rounding, providing more personalized bedside care and minimizing the need for higher-acuity respiratory patients to travel for office visits. Routine tracheostomy changes are also performed at the bedside.

“Kearsley’s Best Nursing Homes 2021-22 recognition and enhanced Respiratory Therapy services reflect the facility’s dedication to patient care and its continued commitment to introducing progressive skilled nursing services,” said Danielle Koons, regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility. “They continue a period of sustained programming development and physical plant enhancements at Kearsley.”

Earlier this year, the facility introduced a new chronic kidney disease (CKD) management program with onsite hemodialysis, which operates in partnership with Dialyze Direct, a leading dialysis provider for the geriatric community. Kearsley also expanded its subacute care capacity in 2021 with the addition of 12 new, semi-private subacute rehab beds.

Kearsley Rehabilitation & Nursing Center is located at 2100 North 49th Street; it is an urgent SNF with a 24/7 direct admission program. The facility sits on the 13-acre estate of Dr. John Kearsley, which also includes age-restricted rental housing at Kearsley Apartments and Kearsley Square – the nation’s oldest retirement community.

Together with Marquis, Kearsley has established a resource library of physician-curated content, addressing many topics of interest for families of patients and the larger community. The library and more information on Kearsley can be found at kearsleyrehab.com.
