This week’s senior living briefs include a rebrand and renovation plan in Illinois, a new ambassador partnership in California and an accessibility project at a Georgia affordable housing community.
Certus Living Rebrands Lexington Square as Prairie Path
LOMBARD, Ill. — Senior living management firm Certus Living has rebranded Lexington Square as Prairie Path and plans to invest more than $14 million in renovations as the 273-unit continuing care retirement community shifts to a rental model.
The community offers independent living, assisted living and memory care. Certus said the rental conversion is intended to remove entrance fee requirements and give residents more financial flexibility.
Renovations are expected to take place over the next 18 months. Planned work includes refreshed common areas, expanded gathering and social spaces, updated entrances, a yoga and wellness center, art studio, indoor heated swimming pool and movie theater. Certus also plans to adjust the mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, including an expansion of independent living offerings.
Front Porch Names LPGA Hall of Famer as Ambassador
GLENDALE, Calif. — Front Porch Communities & Services has named LPGA Hall of Famer Amy Alcott as its first Front Porch Ambassador.
The ambassador program is intended to support the organization’s message that older adults can continue to pursue interests, community involvement and personal growth later in life.
Alcott, 70, is a 1980 U.S. Women’s Open champion. Her first event as ambassador was June 8 at Front Porch’s annual golf tournament, where she joined Front Porch leadership to present tournament awards. She also appeared at the U.S. Women’s Open Championship, held June 4-7 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
UCH Community Gets Support for Walking Path Expansion
KENNESAW, Ga. — Laurel’s Edge, an affordable housing community operated by United Church Homes, has received support from the Cobb EMC Foundation to expand an outdoor walking path at the Kennesaw community.
The project will widen an existing sidewalk that United Church Homes said presents safety and accessibility challenges for residents who use walkers or wheelchairs. The current path is too narrow to allow for safe passing or turning, limiting some residents’ ability to use outdoor spaces.
United Church Homes said the project will move forward in phases. Funding from the Cobb EMC Foundation will first be used to expand the walking path, with additional grants and funding sources sought for future outdoor improvements, including a 10-by-10 seating area near a horseshoe pit and improved accessible entry to a covered patio.
Laurel’s Edge, located at 3950 Frey Road NW, serves about 250 individuals and families within the Cobb EMC service district.
