SG Holdings, New Urban Break Ground on 153-Unit Community in Miami Gardens
August 19, 2026
MIAMI — SG Holdings and New Urban Development LLC have broken ground on Serenity Gardens, a 153-unit affordable senior housing community planned in Miami Gardens.
The community will offer studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units on land leased from the city of Miami Gardens. Completion is expected in late 2028, according to the companies.
New Urban Development is the housing development affiliate of the Urban League of Greater Miami. The project continues its development partnership with SG Holdings, whose previous affordable senior housing projects include the 578-unit Sawyer’s Walk. New Urban’s portfolio includes Superior Manor Apartments Phase 1 and Carrie Meek.
“As South Florida continues to face a critical shortage of affordable housing, developments like Serenity Gardens are essential to helping seniors age with dignity in safe and beautiful communities they can call home,” said Michael Swerdlow, managing partner of SG Holdings.
New Urban Development CEO Oliver L. Gross said the project will transform long-vacant land while expanding access to affordable housing and creating new community spaces.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. is providing financing for Serenity Gardens. Santander Group provided Low-Income Housing Tax Credit equity through syndicator Red Stone Equity Partners.
