April 4, 2019

SHREWSBURY, NJ–Capitol Seniors Housing, a leading senior living investment and development firm, announces the opening of The Chelsea at Shrewsbury, an assisted living and memory care community in Monmouth County, NJ. The $29.3 million, three-story, 73,000-square-foot community with 85 residential suites is operated by Chelsea Senior Living.

“We are thrilled to be providing quality care to the seniors and their loved ones in Shrewsbury in the newest, most state-of-the-art senior living community,” said Roger Bernier, President and COO of Chelsea Senior Living. “We look forward to many years of success.”

Located at 515 Shrewsbury Ave., The Chelsea at Shrewsbury is expected to welcome its first resident April 22, 2019. The community is located at the intersection of Patterson Avenue and Shrewsbury Avenue which is less than a mile and half from the entrance to the Garden State Parkway and is surrounded by shopping and dining.

“After the entitlement process, demolition of a vacant nursing home, and construction of our new community, we’re excited to be opening the first new, modern assisted living residence built in Shrewsbury since 2000,” said Scott Stewart, Managing Partner of Capitol Seniors Housing. “Residents and visitors of The Chelsea at Shrewsbury are going to be impressed with the level of detail, from the finishes to first-class amenities. Senior residents can also look forward to an environment that fosters an active community with events and outings.”

The Chelsea at Shrewsbury was designed by the Meyer Senior Living Studio, based in the Philadelphia-area. The design aesthetic of The Chelsea at Shrewsbury nods towards the colonial architecture found throughout the town of Shrewsbury, while also incorporating a contemporary flare. The use of traditional materials in innovative ways, combined with fresh paint colors, and thoughtful space planning, the Chelsea at Shrewsbury offers residents an invigorating and inviting community to call home. Many of the amenities provide opportunity for collaboration with Shrewsbury’s Guild of Creative Arts, the oldest and largest art community in New Jersey.

“The interiors were designed with bold patterns and colors to create a lively and engaging atmosphere,” explains Meyer Senior Designer Karen Schlegel. “One of the most prominent spaces is the tavern, which offers a variety of seating options for residents to kick back and socialize.”

The tavern’s design was inspired by the local aesthetic and historic Allen House which boasts a vaulted octagonal wood ceiling with an oversized chandelier and red brick wall, a common feature of the historic architecture along Broad Street.

The community offers personalized assisted living in studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. The Country Cottage includes 27 memory care apartments, offering a safe and supportive environment for residents with Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments. For seniors looking to live independently, yet still be a part of a vibrant community, the Sycamore Suites offers luxury conveniences such as a full-kitchen, washer and dryer, individually controlled heat and air and a 24-hour emergency response system.

Chelsea Senior Living operates more than 17 communities, including 14 in New Jersey. Chelsea programming embodies leisure, lifestyles and learning. Monthly events include socials for new members, card clubs, science experiments and community service projects. Chelsea’s dining experience has a reputation for setting them apart. They also offer a comprehensive wellness program that addresses the whole body, mind and spirit.
