Commons in Lincoln Residents Place Across Categories in Local 5K Race
October 27, 2025

LINCOLN, MA — Residents of The Commons in Lincoln, a CCRC in this Boston suburb two miles from the Walden Pond made famous by Henry David Thoreau, recently hit the pavement for the annual Scarecrow Classic 5K. Three residents proudly placed in the 80-99 age group: Steve Strickler placed 2nd in the male category; in the women’s category, Judi Foster placed 2nd and Jan Regan placed 3rd.
The community and its residents have supported the race in some capacity since its inception 13 years ago, even during the pandemic years when residents walked their own course on campus instead of joining a large crowd. Since rejoining their neighbors at the starting line in Lincoln Station last year, excitement has been growing and 11 Commons residents participated in this year’s race.
“The energy at the race in town is different than our own because it’s a major community event. Its bright and early in the morning, a vibrant environment, and everyone is excited to race,” says The Commons in Lincoln Fitness Specialist Jason Williams. “I have been advertising internally about the race since August, and my goal was to bring around a dozen residents.”
The Scarecrow Classic has become a cherished tradition for residents who participate in some form or another each year. The Commons’ support and participation in the event highlights its dedication to foster community and understand the crucial role that physical well-being plays in the lives of residents.
The Commons in Lincoln was once again a Lead Sponsor of the Scarecrow Classic 5K, which operates to benefit the Lincoln Land Conservation Trust’s 2,500 acres of land and public trails. The Commons’ proximity to conservation land and forests is a point of pride for residents, who are frequently found enjoying the area’s natural resources.
The Commons in Lincoln is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community owned by JustLiving Communities and managed by Benchmark Senior Living. It has 168 independent living apartment homes and cottages, along with 40 assisted living, 24 memory care, and 32 skilled nursing units.
