New Affordable Senior Living Community, The Ashford at Sturbridge, Now Open

August 28, 2019

COLUMBUS, OHIO–Ohio-based architecture and planning firm M+A Architects recently completed its design work on The Ashford at Sturbridge, a $12 million affordable senior living project.

Located at 3700 Sturbridge Ct. in Hillard, Ohio, The Ashford at Sturbridge is one of 400 affordable housing communities that Wallick has developed. With 124 studio and one-bedroom units that will be able to house around 155 residents, the new facility offers both assisted and independent senior living options.

“Sturbridge is definitely ahead of the curve, setting the precedence for value-driven service. Innovative financial structures and operating models, along with thoughtfully designed communities, are needed to provide care and housing options for the over 14 million middle-income seniors projected by 2029,” said Russ Garber, Director of M+A’s Senior Living Studio and lead designer. “With today’s utilization rates, more than 700,000 units of seniors housing will be needed to satisfy potential demand from middle market seniors in the next 10 years. With these staggering numbers in mind, it’s imperative to be proactive as opposed to reactive in preparation for the aging population.”

“Our design was able to define affordability, keeping cost conscious without compromising the quality. Using our industry expertise and partnering with the team at Wallick, we knew we couldn’t sacrifice design to save money, and found strategic approaches to value engineering design and development costs,” shared Kris Nankivell, Senior Interior Designer. “We worked closely with the Wallick team to strategically ensure The Ashford at Sturbridge featured modern and beautiful design trends and premiere finishes, while keeping the project affordable. The space was designed to highlight the most important part of the project—the life it will support.”

The new senior living community adds to M+A’s diverse portfolio of groundbreaking and award-winning projects that span a broad range of industry segments such as healthcare, higher education, workplace and retail. In 2019, M+A was awarded the Business Excellence Award: Best Community Impact.
