Residents at Brightmore of Wilmington Help Local Students

WILMINGTON, NC — Brightmore of Wilmington, located fewer than 10 miles from the Atlantic Ocean in North Carolina, recently held a school supply drive for students of three Title One schools in the area. With a twist.
According to a press release, Life Enrichment Coordinator Renee Mastrangelo shared lists of needed school items with all of the independent living residents of the three floors of the senior living community, and then she added a competitive component to help motivate participation.
“I decided that the floor collecting the most would earn a pizza party for those residents,” she said.
If you’re keeping score at home, the second floor won the competition and got themselves a pizza party — but, really, aren’t the kids the real winners? The items have been distributed and the local students got their school year off to a good start thanks to the IL residents of Brightmore of Wilmington.
Mastrangelo said that the competition was fun and perhaps enhanced the drive’s success, but she’s already thinking of ways to enhance the outcome in the future.
“Next year, I’d like to set this as a competition against our sister community, Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall, she said. “We collected a lot but could certainly collect more.”
