June 8, 2026
LITTLETON, Colo. — Four Denver-area Anthem Memory Care communities participated June 4 in a culinary competition highlighting the role of dining in memory care.
The “Battle of the Chefs” event was held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Highline Place, 6767 S. Broadway in Littleton. Chefs from Anthem communities in Littleton, Westminster and Aurora competed by preparing an appetizer, entrée, dessert and pureed showcase dish.
Participating food service directors included Anthony Gonzalez of Highline Place in Littleton, Miguel Garcia of Greenridge Place in Westminster, Jesus Guzman of Willowbrook Place in Littleton and Elena Flier of Chelsea Place in Aurora.
The event was designed to showcase culinary skill as well as the specialized approach required for memory care dining, including pureed dishes and meals adapted to residents’ needs.
“Food is so much more than nutrition in senior living — it is comfort, connection, dignity and joy,” said Michael Zywicki, vice president of programs and engagement for Anthem Memory Care. “We are incredibly proud of our dining teams for the creativity, compassion and skill they bring to every meal, and this event is a wonderful way to celebrate the meaningful role they play in the lives of our residents every day.”
Judges included Cameron Crawford, owner of Next Steps Senior Placement; Corey Smith, executive chef at Wynkoop Brewing Company; and Stephanie Foster, development manager for the Alzheimer’s Association, Colorado Chapter.
Kathy Gross, author of the cookbook A Life Well Fed, also participated with book signings and sales benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association. The cookbook includes recipes and stories from celebrities including Ina Garten and Emeril Lagasse.
