Berry College Announces Location for New CCRC
October 10, 2018
ROME, GA–Classes are in full swing at Berry College in Rome, but more seniors will be heading to campus on October 19 for the groundbreaking of The Spires at Berry College.
These seniors, with an average age of 75, are representative of the more than 200 people who have decided to go “back to school”—to live at The Spires at Berry College and be part of a continuing care retirement community set on 48 acres of Berry College’s sprawling campus.
The October 19 groundbreaking ceremony, to be held at the Christopher Browning Pavilion on the campus of Berry College, will be a celebration of the school’s visionary project that will bring about 300 senior residents to the campus starting in 2020.
“It’s beyond what most people imagine in a retirement community,” says Dr. Steve Briggs, president of Berry College. “It’s the opportunity to be on a college campus again and really make the most of it—music and arts performances, public speakers, classes, sports events, and much more.”
The Spires has welcomed several teaching professionals and retirees—those with affiliations to Berry College and those with strong connections to the Rome area and beyond. Buster Wright, a depositor at The Spires, was born and raised in Rome and graduated from Berry College. “My wife Janice and I are looking forward to the ability to downsize in a community of like-minded people, and to live on a beautiful campus which both of us love dearly,” says Wright.
The Spires at Berry College will create the opportunity for intergenerational engagement and interaction—a unique benefit for residents of a continuing care retirement community, and a valuable advantage for college students.
The groundbreaking weekend will include the ceremonial shovel-turning on Friday, October 19, at 11 a.m., along with tours of The Spires construction site along Eagle Lake. The celebration will continue Saturday with a tailgate party hosted by The Spires before the Vikings’ football game at the Valhalla Stadium. Anyone interested in learning more about The Spires is welcome to attend.
The Spires at Berry College is a visionary new continuing care retirement community to be opened in 2020 alongside pristine Eagle Lake at the foot of Lavender Mountain, nestled on the campus of Berry College in Rome—one of “America’s most beautiful college campuses” on the Best College Reviews ranking.
The Spires will offer the security of accessible healthcare services, including renowned medical centers in downtown Rome only minutes away, and spacious apartments and cottages equipped with lifestyle amenities. The Spires will provide lakeside senior living for the un-retiring retirees.
Greenbrier Development will oversee the project. Greenbrier Senior Living will oversee management of the community when it opens.
