Brookdale Resident Care Associate Recognized As CALA Outstanding Caregiver Of The Year

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA–The California Assisted Living Association (CALA) awarded Nikki Campbell, resident care associate at Brookdale Bakersfield, the CALA’s Excellence in Service – Outstanding Caregiver of the Year Award at its annual fall conference, held in Rancho Mirage, Calif., on Oct. 24, 2016.

Campbell has been with Brookdale for more than 11 years and cares for residents in the Alzheimer’s and dementia care portion of the continuing care retirement community. Brookdale’s Clare Bridge Program which focuses on those living with Alzheimer’s or related dementias is deeply rooted in a person-centered approach focused on creating feelings of belonging and purpose for each resident, while seeking to preserve their identity and sense of self. Campbell is an associate who lives Brookdale’s mission of enriching lives daily.

“Nikki always works to go above and beyond her normal job duties,” says Pam Parkkila, executive director of Brookdale Bakersfield. “The residents are her priority and it shows when she makes sure their needs and requests are met. Her commitment to their comfort is exceptional.”

Campbell’s “say yes” attitude and thankful spirit is what makes her so exceptional at her role as a resident care associate. She treats every resident with compassion, love and respect.

“I was shocked at the honor of being chosen,” said Campbell. “I simply treat my residents as though they are family because they truly are my family.”

Parkkila also commented, “The love and compassion she demonstrates to each of the residents, in every interaction, has impacted the quality of their lives and allowed them to experience love and trust in all aspects of care. To say she has had a positive impact on her residents would be an understatement.”

CALA’s Excellence in Service – Outstanding Caregiver Award honors an exceptional caregiver and/or medication assistant that has provided outstanding care and demonstrated through words and deeds an excellent commitment to those entrusted to their care. Campbell was recognized at the CALA’s Fall Conference & Trade Show.
