Collingswood Rehab & Healthcare Celebrates New In-Facility Ventilator Unit

ROCKVILLE, MD — Collingswood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center recently celebrated the grand opening of its new, highly specialized Ventilator Unit. The first of its kind in this city just northwest of Washington, D.C., the skilled nursing facility’s 20-bed, in-facility suite is geared to treat patients who are ventilator and tracheostomy dependent or have debilitating respiratory conditions.
According to a press release, Collingswood’s Ventilator Unit is under the direction of board-certified pulmonologists Safy John, MD, and Ajit Kuruvilla, MD, who lead the facility’s pulmonary rehabilitation program. A dedicated team of respiratory therapists and care staff provides 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage; the unit is optimal for vent weaning and management. Collingswood’s ability to serve patients with complex conditions and comorbidities is further distinguished by the presence of an in-house hemodialysis offering.
“When Collingswood asked leading area hospital systems to help identify unmet regional patient population needs, a specialized Ventilator Unit — particularly one that could offer a seamless dialysis protocol — came up again and again,” said Nikki Gachot, regional director of market development for Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the center. “They asked, and Collingswood delivered. A special thanks to the Collingswood staff, particularly Drs. John and Kuruvilla and the pulmonary team, for helping make the vision for this exceptional respiratory care unit a reality.”
Collingswood recently completed a multi-million-dollar modernization, featuring top-to-bottom upgrades. The facility has enhanced its specialty care programming significantly as well. Its extensive range of offerings also includes cardiac rehab, chronic kidney disease (CKD) management, and palliative care services, among others.
“With the addition of its new Vent Unit, Collingswood has created an all-encompassing specialty service line,” Gachot added. “It is truly transformative skilled nursing care.”
Collingswood, a 160-bed skilled nursing facility, provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care.
