Edgehill’s $20-million Expansion Complete

March 20, 2017

STAMFORD, CT—-Edgehill, Connecticut’s premier continuing care retirement community (CCRC), today announced the completion of a $20-million expansion and renovation that includes a new memory care wing; a more spacious, upgraded Sub-Acute Rehabilitation facility; and upgrades and enhanced Independent Living residences. Construction at the community began in spring, 2015. Edgehill is located at 122 Palmers Hill Rd., Stamford.

Edgehill’s Executive Director Christopher Barstein described the construction project as an ongoing investment in providing quality care and exceptional service to its residents. “We’re continuing to meet the needs of current residents, as we have for nearly 20 years,” said Barstein. “We’re also anticipating the needs and preferences of a rapidly growing senior population who may one day call Edgehill home.”

The highlight of the expansion project is the addition of Harbor Wing, a 15,700-square-foot memory care neighborhood. Harbor Wing’s intimate, homelike, and easy-to-navigate environment is ideal for residents living with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases. “Residents living in Harbor Wing will find memory loss isn’t a barrier to living a quality life,” said Barstein.

Harbor Wing features 22 apartment homes, a dining room and activities area, and access to a secure outdoor patio. Journey Stations situated throughout the neighborhood allow residents to connect with a memory or take part in an activity that piques their interest. Sample Journey Stations feature a sewing machine, a fishing rod and tackle box, and art brushes, paint, and a canvas. In addition to Edgehill’s nationally recognized Harbor Memory Care Program, residents living at Harbor Wing also benefit from:

• Exceptional memory care, led by experienced Certified Dementia Practitioners
• Assistance with daily living, including physical, mobility, and dining activities
• Live Now, Live Engaged lifestyle program for purposeful, meaningful, successful days
• Personal Care Plans based on individual needs
• Parallel programming, the option to choose from personal and group activities every hour
• Dining with Dignity, where colors and choices promote success
• Leadership Presence Model, with management onsite seven days a week
• Medication assistance
• Family and community support groups, forums, events and education

Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Center Expansion
Edgehill’s 23,975-square-foot Sub-Acute Rehabilitation facility features private and elegantly appointed resident rooms, expansive public spaces, enhanced dining facilities, and the services and amenities of a boutique hotel. The Five-Star Medicare-certified facility provides quality rehabilitative care. Direct admissions are accepted from all hospitals located in Connecticut and New York.

Independent Living Renovations & Upgrades
Edgehill’s Independent Living renovations include an expanded casual dining restaurant, a roof-top garden, a parlor and entertainment room, a fitness center, and a massage therapy room. In addition, there are nine new independent living apartments featuring wood floors, tile baths, granite countertops, and stainless steel appliances.

The construction project team includes A.P. Construction Company, Stamford, Conn., and Bechtel Frank Erickson Architects, Lexington, Mass.
