REDMOND, WA — Emerald Heights, a life-plan community in this city 15 miles across Lake Washington from Seattle, recently presented a $100,000 donation to the Redmond Senior and Community Center to support new construction.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Grant Linacre, executive director of Emerald Heights, presented the donation. Also in attendance were Mayor Angela Birney, Director of Parks and Recreation Loreen Hamilton, and Senior Advisory Committee representative Linda McCrystal.

The donation is helping to fund the construction of a 52,000-square-foot community center. The new and improved community center will include a lounge and library, multipurpose community rooms, a commercial kitchen, cardio and weight rooms, an indoor track, group fitness studios, locker rooms, classrooms for art and music, a coffee bar, and a kid zone.

The building was designed to be sustainable; designers incorporated eco-friendly building materials, including energy efficient mechanical, plumbing, electrical systems, and appliances. A large solar panel on the rooftop will provide more than 50 percent of the energy needed to operate the building.

“We believe this project will have a positive benefit not only for residents at Emerald Heights but the greater Redmond community,” Linacre said in a press release. “We are proud to be partnering with City of Redmond and excited to help fund important initiatives like these.”

The funding is provided by the Emerald Heights’ Board of Directors Community Grants Program. Begun in 2019, the Community Grants Program has provided over $1 million to 25 community organizations in Redmond and surrounding areas.

The Redmond Senior and Community Center is scheduled to be completed in May of 2024.

Emerald Heights, sponsored by Emerald Communities, is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) senior housing and services organization. The community is a Type A life-care community on 38 acres in the Education Hill area of Redmond; it’s an amenity-rich and resort-style senior living community, with an on-site healthcare center providing assisted living, memory support, and Medicare-certified skilled-nursing care. The community provides residences, amenities, and services to people ages 55 and older.
