Innovative Aging Services Leader James Bernardo Receives Award of Honor

October 4, 2022

Washington, D.C.—James Bernardo, president and CEO of Presbyterian Senior Living (PSL), will be celebrated next month for his innovation, leadership and service at the LeadingAge Annual Meeting & EXPO at the Colorado Convention Center, where mission-driven service providers from around the country will gather at one of the sector’s most unique events.

“Service, innovation and perseverance are the hallmarks of Jim’s career. His unfailing commitment and positive impact, despite the challenges wrought by COVID in recent years, is an example for all of us. We congratulate Jim on his achievements and thank him for his commitment,” said Katie Smith Sloan, president and CEO of LeadingAge, the association of nonprofit providers of aging services.

Bernardo, who will retire from his post at Dillsburg, Pennsylvania-based PSL at the end of this year, is the recipient of the 2022 LeadingAge Award of Honor. A social worker by training, he joined PSL in 1985, and after holding a variety of jobs with increasing responsibility, was named to his current role in 2019. Bernardo had a significant impact at PSL through his inclusive leadership and commitment to innovation, as well as through his contributions to the aging services sector in Pennsylvania and nationally.

“I am humbled to be the recipient of the LeadingAge’s Award of Honor,” said Bernardo. “This would not have been possible without the support of my family and PSL, and the hard work of all of my colleagues at PSL and LeadingAge. I am honored to be placed in the company of the many award winners ahead of me, and am pleased to share this with the many who helped me earn the award.”
