ATHENS, Ga. — Landmark Properties is expanding into the U.S. senior housing sector and has appointed Shashank Goel as senior director of U.S. senior housing investment management.
The Athens, Ga.-based real estate firm said it will pursue both ground-up development and acquisition opportunities through partnerships with senior housing operators.
“We see tremendous opportunity in purpose-built senior housing assets where design, care delivery, and resident experience are intentionally aligned,” Wes Rogers, chairman and chief executive officer of Landmark Properties, said in a statement.
Walt Templin, president and chief investment officer, said the sector has recovered from the pandemic and now faces a supply-demand imbalance that creates an opening for new investment.
“Bringing on experienced leadership like Shashank Goel reinforces our disciplined approach as we build a scalable senior housing investment platform,” Templin said.
Goel brings more than 10 years of senior housing experience to Landmark. He joins the firm from Harrison Street, where he was involved in sourcing, underwriting, structuring and executing senior housing investments. Previously, he held asset management roles at The Carlyle Group and worked in investment banking at CS Capital Advisors.
“Senior housing investors have a diverse set of investment opportunities across the risk spectrum set against the backdrop of one of the most compelling fundamental stories in the real estate sector,” Goel said.

Goel holds bachelor’s degrees in finance and accounting from the University of Maryland, College Park. He is a member of the Future Leaders Council of the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care.
Landmark Properties is headquartered in Athens, Ga., and also has an office in Atlanta. The firm said its portfolio includes more than 115 residential communities across the United States, with 74,000 beds under management, and a development pipeline of more than 50 student and multifamily projects under construction or expected to start in the near term.
