Logan Square Resident Julie Patillo Celebrates 108th Birthday

PHILADELPHIA — Julie Patillo, a resident of Logan Square Enhanced Senior Living, recently celebrated her 108th birthday surrounded by her family, church friends, fellow residents and staff.
Patillo, who was born Aug. 5, 1918, enjoys dancing, listening to music and arranging flowers.
A former Philadelphia elementary school teacher, Patillo said her students helped keep her feeling youthful.
“I very much enjoyed teaching,” she said. “The students always made me feel young again.”
Becoming a grandmother remains one of Patillo’s fondest memories. She has several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Music also has remained an important part of her life. Patillo said she remembers the introduction of FM radio, which allowed her to listen to live jazz broadcasts at home.
When asked what advice she has for younger people, Patillo said, “Have fun and don’t worry too much. It will all work out.”
