ELLICOTT CITY, MD—Lorien Health Services, a family-owned assisted living/nursing home company and industry innovator, announced last week that John Mangione Jr. has been named as vice president of care forward.

“Forty-five years ago, my family put into place a vision of caring and as vice president of care forward, I will be able to carry on their dream,” Mangione said.

In his new role, Mangione will oversee Lorien’s assisted living communities and home health services and will be involved in areas that include brand exposure, operations and sales. He will also focus on identifying trends that will impact the future of care.

“John brings a wealth of talent to the position, and we are excited to see him support our growth and evolution as a company that thrives on providing the most exceptional care in the region,” said Lou Grimmel, senior chief executive officer of Lorien Health Services. “John began his career at Lorien [after] graduating from college and he knows how the company operates, so he will hit the ground running.”

Mangione started at the Columbia facility in 2009 and after working in various roles throughout Lorien, he was accepted into the administrator-in-training program. He received his nursing home administrator license in 2012 and opened up Lorien Elkridge. During the last few years, Mangione was instrumental in successfully navigating his team through the challenges of the pandemic.

“I am excited to bring the knowledge I have from 10 years of frontline nursing home experience to the corporate office,” Mangione said. “I’m happy to help refine what works in this new world and push our company forward. We have the same goal we’ve always had, and that is to take exceptional care of our residents and employees. We treat them as family.”

Mangione graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in agriculturaland resources economics.
