The Cottages of New Lenox Named Test Site for Revolutionary New Fall Prevention Technology

May 11, 2020

NEW LENOX, ILRecognizing that falls are one of the leading causes of accidental and unintentional deaths especially among seniors, officials from the Illinois-based Charter Senior Living organization recently announced that its senior living community, The Cottages of New Lenox, is a test site for revolutionary new fall prevention technology created by Evolution Business Technologies (EBT).

The fall prevention technology is a new component of EBT’s Loss Prevention and Situation Management Solution (LPSM), a preventive and real-time response artificial intelligence with multiple integrated modules. The Fall Prevention and Notification Module (LPSM-Fall Detection) was created exclusively for senior and assisted living communities where resident rooms are usually left without video surveillance.

LPSM-Fall Detection is image based, allowing providers to monitor residents and patients in real time without human intervention or invasion of privacy, while creating a higher level of awareness to critical or emergency situations. It detects movement, bed departure, falls, room departures and more. It’s a way for providers to improve situation management means and fall prevention efforts. Because it detects motion in real time, staff response time is much faster in cases where falls are not preventable.

“Unlike other fall detection technology programs, LPSM-Fall Detection focuses on falls that occur while residents are in bed and as they attempt to sit down and stand up from a chair,” said Charter Senior Living Chief Operating Officer Jayne Sallerson. “These activities account for the highest proportion of falls in senior living communities, so we are confident LPSM-Fall Detection will play a significant role in our ongoing efforts to provide the best care possible to our residents.”

Charter Senior Living Vice President of Sales and Marketing Carol Simbeya adds, “We partnered with LPSM because it represents the best integration of analytics, face recognition, object/motion detection and real-time insight actions in the technology market today. With this technology, we are tracking and seeking incidents. We’re NOT recording people’s actions.”

Sallerson said that Charter’s implementation of the LPSM-Fall Detection module is the catalyst to future integrations of other operation systems such as lighting, HVAC and outdoor monitoring. “EBT’s commitment aligns with our innovative, proactive approach to senior care.”
