Touchmark Breaks Ground on Anchorage Retirement Community

September 29, 2026

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Touchmark has broken ground on Touchmark at Hillside, a 244-residence senior living community in South Anchorage that will include independent living, assisted living and memory care on one campus.

The community, Touchmark’s first in Alaska, is under construction on about 14 acres at 2441 O’Malley Road in the Hillside area. According to a recent news release from the company, plans call for 120 condo-style independent living homes, 34 villa homes, 58 assisted living apartments and 32 memory care homes within two secure neighborhoods.

The company says it expects Touchmark at Hillside to create about 100 permanent, year-round jobs across health care, hospitality, management, maintenance and other areas once fully operational.

“Alaskans shouldn’t have to choose between remaining connected to the place and lifestyle they love and having more choices for how they want to live in retirement,” said Marcus Breuer, CEO of Touchmark. “We see an opportunity in Anchorage to create something different: a community built first around living well and staying active, with the added confidence of knowing support is available if it is ever needed.”

Touchmark Development & Construction is leading the development and design of the community. The project team also includes Bettisworth North, Watterson Construction, DOWL, BBFM Engineers and T3 Alaska, with LRS Architects also providing architectural services.

The community is being designed for older adults who want to remain independent while having access to services, amenities and social opportunities. Assisted living and memory care will be available if residents’ needs change.

Touchmark at Hillside will include multiple dining venues, a fitness center, aerobics and yoga studio, theater, arts and crafts studio, library, game room, salon, massage room, outdoor walking paths, water features, a fenced dog park, fire pit and secure underground parking.

Residents will also have access to Touchmark’s Full Life Wellness & Life Enrichment Program, which includes classes, events, excursions and activities based on individual interests and seven dimensions of wellness. The Hillside location provides access to the Chugach State Park trail system, nearby health care, shopping, dining and entertainment in Midtown and South Anchorage.

Touchmark, headquartered in Beaverton, Ore., is privately owned and has developed, owned and operated full-service retirement communities for more than 45 years. The company serves about 4,500 residents across 16 communities, supported by about 3,000 team members.
