DALLAS–Rick Pruett, the executive director of Ventana by Buckner®, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, June 8, at the age of 53. The cause of death was determined to be a heart attack. A 21-year veteran of the senior living industry, Pruett is survived by his wife of 25 years, Relinda (Lindy), and their two sons, Trey and Braden.
The memorial service for Pruett will be held Saturday, June 15 in Denton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the American Diabetes Association at Diabetes.org.
Pruett was announced as the executive director of Ventana by Buckner on June 13, 2018 and officially started the position on June 18. Ventana by Buckner is operated by Buckner Senior Living.
“Rick Pruett was truly one of the finest gentlemen I have had the honor and pleasure to know and to work with. He will be dearly missed by me personally,” said Buckner Retirement Services Senior Vice President Charlie Wilson. “He took the reins of Ventana and was shaping it with an outstanding team, who remain committed to his vision of Ventana by Buckner being the finest senior living community in the United States.”
Pruett began his career in senior living in 1998. Prior to accepting the position with Ventana, Pruett served as an officer for two leading senior living organizations. He supported the work of multiple campuses in several states and helped open new communities, community repositioning, refinancing and quality improvement for existing communities.
He worked for Life Care Services from 2013 to 2018 and served as vice president of Management Services for Greystone Communities in Irving, Texas for seven years prior to that. In addition, Pruett served as executive director/administrator for three senior living communities from 1998 to 2006.
“Rick’s professional legacy will be in the passion he had for serving senior adults. He treated everyone with empathy and compassion, and those values will be upheld by our Ventana team,” added Wilson.
Ventana by Buckner is Dallas’ first and only luxury high-rise Life Care community, featuring two adjacent 12-story towers and 189 independent apartment homes. Buckner Retirement Services Vice President Brian Robbins will serve as Ventana’s interim executive director.
