Wingate Living Announces Return of RI Memory Cafés

November 1, 2024

Wingateblackstone Memorycafe 1024PROVIDENCE, RI — Wingate Living, a family-run organization offering a full continuum of services from independent and assisted living to memory care, skilled nursing and home care, has announced in a press release the return of Rhode Island Memory Cafés to two locations in this city.

Wingate Residences on the East Side and Wingate Residences on Blackstone Boulevard will host cafés monthly, providing the opportunity for those living with dementia and their care partners to meet others who have similar concerns, learn new skills, and support one another.

One of the most difficult parts of advancing dementia can be isolation, both for the person with memory loss and their care partner. That is where Memory Cafés come in. Paused during the pandemic, the RI Memory Café Program has returned, helping ease that isolation with resources, support, and friendship. The goal is to build a network across Rhode Island, offering support to anyone who needs it. Memory Cafés are free and open to anyone living with dementia, their care partners, family, and friends.

“We are delighted to bring back Memory Cafés at Wingate Residences on the East Side and Wingate Residences on Blackstone Boulevard,” said Dawn Marie Johnson, vice president of sales and marketing. “We are committed to providing top-notch care through our unique Memory programs, and these cafés enhance the support available to our residents and their loved ones, as well as being open to the public.”

Wingate Living has also announced that Director of Digital Marketing Lauren Yany has joined the RI Memory Cafés Board of Directors.

“Memory Cafés are incredibly important and one-of-a-kind, and we are so excited to bring them back for communities throughout Rhode Island,” said Laurie Gunter Mantz, founder of the RI Memory Café organization. “The cafés provide a valuable way to address the isolation many individuals living with dementia face, fostering a safe and enjoyable environment for all, no matter where they live.”

Wingate Living is an owner, operator, manager, and developer of senior living communities in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The company is committed to offering memory care specifically tailored to the individual, ranging from early-stage to more advanced memory impairment.
