Woodbine Rehabilitation & Healthcare Centerhas promoted Ahmed Elebiary, MD, to subacute medical director. The appointment, which reflects the Alexandria skilled nursing facility’s commitment to recognizing talent from within, comes on the heels of Woodbine’s ranking – for the third consecutive year – as one of Virginia’s top nursing homes in Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes 2022.

Dr. Ahmed Elebiary

Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Elebiary previously served as an attending physician and intensivist with Woodbine’s pulmonary/transitional care unit. He has deep experience in geriatric medicine across the continuum of care, and his hospital affiliations include Innova’s Fairfax, Alexandria and Mount Vernon locations.

“Dr. Elebiary is highly regarded for his broad expertise in geriatrics and emphasis on holistic care,” said Nikki Gachot, regional director of business development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the facility. “Woodbine’s quality care and services, which draw continued recognition, including the latest Newsweek honor, has always come from the talent and dedication of its team. This new and notable leadership role for Dr. Elebiary reflects all that he contributes.”

Subacute represents a comprehensive, high level of care for patients with active illnesses, injuries or complex medical conditions following – or as an alternative to – a hospital stay. Some of the most common conditions of those in subacute rehab include joint fractures or replacements, heart issues and diabetes. Subacute patients typically undergo rehab therapy sessions for one or two hours per day, as prescribed.

“Woodbine’s focus on ensuring that patients receive optimal care is second to none; I am pleased to expand my role here,” noted Dr. Elebiary. “I look forward to working with our dedicated team in providing subacute patients with programming tailored to meet their specific needs, enabling them to regain independence and get back to day-to-day activities.”

Newsweek, in partnership with global data research firm Statista Inc., established its America’s Best Nursing Homes 2022, recognizing the top 450 out of 11,849 homes across 25 states. The ranking is based on performance data, peer recommendations and the handling of COVID-19, relative to in-state competition.

Woodbine also maintains a five-star rating in quality measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Located at 2729 King St., the facility provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care, with a range of progressive, specialty skilled nursing services. It has the state’s largest licensed skilled nursing capacity.

Based in Brick, N.J., Marquis Health Consulting Services is a highly skilled and vision-driven nursing home consulting company currently supporting Mid-Atlantic and New England facilities totaling nearly 6,000 skilled nursing and assisted living beds.
