22 Dozen Tarts Surprise Fairwinds-Woodward Park Residents
April 13, 2020
FRESNO, CA–Fairwinds-Woodward Park, a Leisure Care community, hosted Easter dinner yesterday for its residents during the California shelter-in-place order. General Manager Deanne Edwards ordered 22 dozen fruit tarts—264 tarts total—from local bakery La Boulangerie as a surprise.
“Easter was not the same this year with residents spending their day in isolation as we wait for this deadly virus to pass. We hope these tarts brought just a little joy,” said Edwards. “La Boulangerie is a favorite among the residents in our community, and its an opportunity to support our local bakery.”
La Boulangerie has been in business since 1981 and is located in Fig Garden, an area where many current residents of Fairwinds-Woodward Park once lived.
The staff at the senior living community boxed the tarts on Saturday and delivered them with a prime rib dinner on Easter Sunday.
Fairwinds-Woodward Park closed its dining room in mid-March since the shelter-in-place order was issued. Friends and family members have not been able to visit loved ones in an effort to keep residents safe and healthy. Staff have been delivering three meals a day, plus working to entertain the 253 residents in independent and assisted living.
Fairwinds-Woodward Park is trying to use as many local vendors as possible to support local business while making the shelter-in-place more comfortable for their residents.
