Artis Senior Living Celebrates a Milestone of Success

MCLEAN, VA—A little more than 10 years ago, a group of leaders with tenured experience in senior living, health care and development established an ambitious and purposeful plan to create a more comfortable, happier and better life for seniors and families dealing with dementia and memory challenges. After months of planning, research and support from the Bainum family, Artis Senior Living was founded in September 2012.

“We had a passion and a mission to really make a difference with the memory care support of seniors,” said Don Feltman, president and CEO of Artis Senior Living. “We have never wavered, and never will, from our fundamental belief that delivering exceptional care is unique to each human being. We create individually designed care programs that prioritize compassion and commitment to each resident’s comfort and unique needs. We call it The Artis Way.”

Artis’ development began with the purchase of an old car dealership in north Chicago, and quickly blossomed into 27 operating communities in 11 states throughout the upper midwest and east coast.

“Our plan wouldn’t have been possible without the experience, support and dedication of the Bainum family,” said Feltman. “It was their proven reputation, combined with our vision, that engineered the affectionate, high-quality care experience we provide to our residents and their families.”

The late Stewart Bainum Sr. opened his first state-of-the-art nursing center in 1960. He then went on to create and operate a variety of successful senior living and health care residences, including independent living, assisted living, memory care and nursing care communities.

Today, Artis Senior Living has more than 1,000 dedicated professionals serving more than 1,000 residents across its 27 communities. Recent accreditations and honors include the following:
