Barclay Friends Launches “Magic Table” with Expansion of Memory Care Services
September 13, 2024
WEST CHESTER, PA — Barclay Friends, a Kendal affiliate, has announced in a press release the successful launch of the “Magic Table” tool to enhance resident engagement. With construction well underway for the community’s expansion of memory care services, Barclay Friends is focused on intentional, innovative designs and technology to support individuals living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other cognitive impairments.
The “Magic Table” — also known as the Tovertafel — utilizes engaging light projections on a table to stimulate and entertain residents facing cognitive challenges. These activities are crafted to encourage physical movement, social interaction, and cognitive stimulation, significantly enhancing residents’ wellbeing. The Tovertafel provides a supportive, interactive environment where residents can laugh, learn, and engage joyfully.
“Across the board, employee team members share with me how the Tovertafel is like a little magic box of fun,” shared Barclay Friends CEO Maria Santangelo. “It’s amazing how quickly it turns a quiet room into a hub of laughter and excitement. The residents love it!”
As part of the community’s dedication to expanding Memory Care services, Barclay Friends is undergoing a comprehensive renovation initiative. This expansion will introduce state-of-the-art residences designed specifically to address the needs of those with memory impairments, equipped with cutting-edge amenities that promote comfort, safety, and cognitive engagement.
“With this expansion, we will be able to offer residential care opportunities for twice as many older adults who have dementia as we are able to today,” Ellen Gilbert, board chair at Barclay Friends, said. “We are focused on creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment to serve the growing demand within the community.”
