Eversound and The Arbor Company Team Up to Transform Daily Life for Residents

June 26, 2019

BOSTON, MA–Eversound has partnered with The Arbor Company to transform daily life for residents and staff in assisted living and memory care communities by preventing social isolation and depression through its engagement-amplifying technology.

As part of the rollout, The Arbor Company will be implementing Eversound into 11 of their communities located in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, and New Jersey for use in their independent living, assisted living and memory care settings. Known for its progressive outlook, The Arbor Company has a track record for implementing initiatives and technologies that enhance the health and spirit of its residents.

“Arbor has always embraced innovative ways to enhance the lives of our residents,” said Kris Frankel, Regional Vice President of Engagement and Dementia Training for The Arbor Company. “Given the impressive results in the pilot program, we’re excited to fully roll out Eversound so that residents in all of these 11 communities can benefit.”

The partnership comes after successful pilots in several Arbor Company locations which saw a substantial increase in resident participation, engagement and satisfaction in programming. In survey responses, staff at four Arbor Company locations reported that Eversound was “highly effective” at improving programming, engagement and participation, contentment and “very effective” at improving communication between residents and staff.

Eversound’s proprietary engagement-amplifying tool is an enhanced-listening technology designed specifically for seniors and uses wireless headphones to enhance focus and engagement. Eversound’s technology uses digital enhanced cordless communication (DECT) which allows a transmitter to send signals to many users, allowing residents to easily connect with their communities. By increasing socialization among residents, their families and their caregivers, Eversound is shown to improve cognitive function and may delay the impact of dementia and other health conditions related to hearing loss.

“We are excited to work with The Arbor Company in such a capacity and are elated to know we are mitigating the negative consequences of hearing loss for their residents,” said Matt Reiners, co-founder of Eversound. “We are humbled to partner with such a progressive and person-centered provider.”

A number of residents in Arbor Company’s communities reported that hearing loss hindered their ability to participate in activities and conversations in a series of testimonials collected from pilot locations. Many residents in assisted living and memory care communities often struggle to hear which prevents them from engaging or participating.

According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, approximately one in three people between the ages of 65 and 74 have hearing loss, and nearly 50 percent of those over 75 have difficulty hearing. Studies have shown untreated hearing loss can increase the risk of dementia, falls, and social isolation.

Preliminary studies continue to show efficacy of Eversound’s ability to increase engagement, participation and in some cases, mood.

“Our mission is to end social isolation for vulnerable, at-risk individuals,” said Jake Reisch, CEO and co-founder of Eversound. “Every day we learn of more older adults being transformed by our technology and more communities making powerful differences in the daily life of their residents.”

Eversound recently unveiled five use cases—group activities, communication with caregivers, visits with family and friends, music therapy, and prospective resident tours—that enhance care in group and one-on-one interactions across all levels of assisted living and memory care communities. Empowering residents to engage in their communities helps prevent social isolation and depression, which may also reduce the risk of dementia, falls, and other health conditions.

Eversound currently is used to enhance well-being for over 6,000 residents in more than 500 communities across the United States—a simple solution making a profound difference for all residents including those who experience hearing loss, dementia and other health conditions.

With more than 30 years of dedication and experience, The Arbor Company is an Atlanta-based operator of more than 40 independent living, assisted living and memory care communities in 11 states.
