WILMINGTON, Del. — Leslie Johnson, executive director of Kentmere Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing in Wilmington, has graduated from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) Future Leaders Program.

Johnson, who has more than 17 years of experience in senior living, including 14 years in leadership and management roles, was nominated for the yearlong program by the Delaware Health Care Facilities Association (DHCFA).

Now in its 20th year, the Future Leaders Program provides professional development, education and networking opportunities for emerging leaders in long-term care. Participants develop leadership skills and prepare to represent the interests of long-term care providers at the state and national levels.

“The program was a valuable experience that challenged me to think more broadly about leadership, learn from other professionals who share a commitment to long term care, and explore new ways to make a positive impact on the lives of residents and the teams who care for them,” Johnson said.

Johnson began her career as a registered dietitian in a large healthcare system before becoming a licensed nursing home administrator. She has since held leadership positions at several senior living communities, with responsibilities spanning resident care, operations, regulatory compliance and financial management.

In addition to her role at Kentmere, Johnson serves on the DHCFA board of directors, where she participates in legislative advocacy and policy discussions affecting Delaware’s long-term care providers.

Kentmere Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing is a nonprofit organization founded in 1901. The Wilmington community provides short-term rehabilitation, skilled nursing, long-term care and specialized Alzheimer’s and dementia care.
