Multimillion Dollar Expansion Underway at Country House

September 23, 2019

GREENVILLE, DE–Country House, Delaware’s first continuing care retirement community, is underway with a $70 million expansion that will add 20 new cottage homes, 55 apartments and a clubhouse featuring a variety of new amenities.

The first phase of the three-year project is set to begin in September 2019, with the construction of the cottage homes, to be situated on Country House’s 48-acre campus. Adjacent to walking trails and with easy access to Kennett Pike, the 2,100 square foot cottages will feature stone finishes, open floor plans, fully-appointed kitchens, covered patios and two-car garages.

The second phase of the project includes construction of a new clubhouse and apartments. The clubhouse will include new restaurant venues, a performance center, and a new fitness and aquatic center. The 55 new apartments, ranging in size between 1,400 and 2,200 square feet, will be located within two new wings and feature open floor designs and fireplaces. Reservations are now being accepted for the cottages and apartments.

“Country House has always been known for elegant retirement living in a beautiful setting, with the security of on-site health care services should the need ever arise,” said former Delaware Governor Dale Wolf, who now resides at Country House. “The community is the right blend of what you need and what you want at this stage of life, and the features of our new clubhouse and fitness center will make Country House even more appealing to the next generation of retirees.”

Following its affiliation with Acts Retirement-Life Communities in 2010, Country House embarked on a master planning process to continue its proud history of vibrant retirement living. The multimillion-dollar project marks the most ambitious expansion in Country House’s 60-year history.

Country House is a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community (CCRC) that combines residential cottages and apartment homes with a comprehensive range of long-term care services, including assisted living and skilled care residences, located within the on-site health center. One of the most unique aspects of Country House is its life care plan, which pre-pays any future long-term care residents may need. Approximately 230 residents currently reside at the community.
