Ohio Living Appoints James P. Joyce, PE, and Bob Parker to Statewide Board of Directors

August 18, 2020

Westerville, Ohio – Ohio Living, one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit, multi-site aging services organizations, has appointed two new members to its corporate Board of Directors: James P. Joyce of Hilliard, Ohio, and Robert E. (Bob) Parker of Sidney, Ohio. They each began their terms on July 1, 2020.

Joyce is a Professional Engineer with more than 35 years of experience in the engineering, construction and facilities management industries. Most recently, he served as the President and CEO of H.R. Gray from 2004 to 2017. He has managed projects ranging in size from $2 million to $60 million and he understands the intricacies of construction programs. In 2018, Joyce transitioned from President and CEO into the Chairman position where he later retired in 2019.

Parker is the former Executive Director of the Shelby County United Way. He retired from a career as Corporate Controller and Plant Manager for the Stolle Corp./Alcoa, Inc. Parker is currently the chair of the board for Ohio Living Foundation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ohio Living, where he has served since 2014. His position as chair affords him a seat on the parent company board for Ohio Living.

Both Joyce and Parker credit their personal experiences with aging services as incentive to further the Ohio Living mission through their leadership: “I’m proud to serve Ohio Living because I saw first-hand the work of the staff at Ohio Living Dorothy Love as they cared for my 97-year-old-mother,” said Parker. Joyce has a similar view: “My mother-in-law had been living in another retirement community and I was able to witness her experiences. Ohio Living compares very favorably to the things I value in such an organization.”

“Without question, James and Bob are exceptional additions to our Board of Directors,” said Ohio Living CEO Laurence C. Gumina. “Having their expertise and perspective at the parent board table is indispensable. I’m pleased they made the decision to join our leadership team.”

Headquartered in Westerville, Ohio, Ohio Living is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit, multi-site aging services organizations. Since 1922, Ohio Living has defined the highest standards of quality of life for adults through its 12 life plan communities and Ohio Living Home Health & Hospice, servings 50 Ohio counties. The Ohio Living Foundation raises several million dollars annually to support charity care, special programs, capital expansion and endowment.
