Sunrise of Gurnee Earns Gold National Quality Award

September 10, 2018

MCLEAN, VA–Sunrise Senior Living’s Sunrise of Gurnee, IL, community has recently been selected to receive the 2018 Gold – Excellence in Quality Award by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). Sunrise of Gurnee is one of just four centers nationwide to be recognized with Gold this year and is among the first two assisted living centers ever to receive the honor.

The Gold Award is the final and most prestigious of three progressive levels within the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program, which recognizes long-term and post-acute care communities across the United States that have demonstrated their dedication to focusing on the delivery of high-quality care and services through a commitment to superior performance excellence.

Since its inception in 1996, AHCA/NCAL has recognized just 38 providers with awards at the Gold level, including Sunrise of Gurnee.

“Our team members at Sunrise of Gurnee have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to championing the lives of their residents, and we are proud to celebrate this rare and exemplary achievement,” said Sue Coppola, chief clinical officer for Sunrise. “This recognition further validates our systematic, evidence-based approach to personalized care, as we continue to promote the overall health and wellness of the seniors we serve.”

At the Gold level, recipients have invested years in mastering and applying the rigorous criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program to achieve superior results in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, customer and workforce focus, and operations and knowledge management. Applicants must also demonstrate meaningful, value-added change based on factual evaluation of the requirements, excellent performance against relative external comparisons in the area, and practices ranking among the best in the post-acute care profession, while also serving as a role model within the industry.

“Sunrise of Gurnee has truly set itself apart as a leader both within its community and in our profession as a whole,” said Chris Winkle, Sunrise CEO. “We are proud not only to receive this honor but also to be recognized as one of the first assisted living communities to reach this milestone.”

First opened in May 2002, Sunrise of Gurnee offers assisted living, memory care in its Reminiscence Neighborhood for those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and short-term stays for those seeking respite or rehabilitation services. Sunrise of Gurnee offers a unique dining program reflective of traditional Midwest fare, electronic health records through Sunrise CareConnect, and vibrant and varied senior activities through Sunrise’s eight signature programs designed specifically to provide opportunities for residents to Live With Purpose.

Sunrise of Gurnee joins 55 Sunrise communities that have earned the Silver – Achievement in Quality Award, and more than 150 others that have received the Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award over the years. With over 200, Sunrise has received more National Quality Awards than any other assisted living provider.

All 2018 National Quality Award recipients will be honored during AHCA/NCAL’s Annual Convention and Exposition, October 7-10, 2018, in San Diego, CA.
