West Gables Health Care Center Launches New Orthopedic Recovery Program
October 17, 2024
MIAMI, FL — West Gables Health Care Center has introduced OrthoWIN, a highly specialized subacute care program for orthopedic recovery. According to a press release, Giselle Vivaldi, MD, a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) specialist, is directing the new initiative with the support of an interdisciplinary care team at the Miami skilled nursing facility.
OrthoWIN was developed by Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports West Gables. The PM&R-centered care model caters to patients recovering from a range of orthopedic surgeries and injuries, including those with comorbidities or without the social support to recover at home independently. PM&R, also known as Physiatry, focuses on the restoration of health and function with an integrated treatment plan including pain management and physical therapy.
“OrthoWIN responds to a direct call from healthcare systems for this type of skilled nursing specialization,” said Marquis’ Kate Bauer, regional director of market development. “West Gables’ goal is to help its area hospital partners address the growing volume of joint replacement care and fracture care patients who are unable to transition directly home following a surgery or injury.”
The OrthoWIN platform — with its clear quality measures and a standardized approach — features a guided PM&R plan, seven-days-per-week therapy services as warranted, coordination with a patient’s surgical team on preferences, and wound care management. Under Dr. Vivaldi’s leadership, OrthoWIN’s “whole body” approach offers customized support to manage complex cases and comorbidities; it can integrate seamlessly with West Gables’ physician-led Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs, for example. OrthoWIN also includes patient and caregiver education, as well as a virtual or in-person home evaluation prior to discharge.
“West Gables is fortunate to have Dr. Vivaldi lead this new initiative, supported by a dedicated team of talented specialists,” said Bauer. “With OrthoWIN, West Gables is well-positioned to bridge the gap between hospital and home.”
West Gables provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab, and long-term residential care. The center holds an accreditation for its quality care and services from The Joint Commission, the healthcare standards-setting and accrediting body, and it maintains a Five-Star Quality Measures rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. In addition, West Gables has earned the American Heart Association’s Skilled Nursing Facility Heart Failure Center Certification.
OrthoWIN is part of Marquis’ expanding branded suite of healthcare delivery models for its client communities. The Brick, New Jersey-based firm provides administrative and consulting services to skilled nursing facilities and senior housing communities along the Eastern Seaboard.
