The Admiral at the Lake Ends Affiliation with the Kendal Corporation

CHICAGO, IL — The Admiral at the Lake has announced that it is ending its affiliation with the Kendal System; the Kendal Corporation had been a critical partner in The Admiral’s redevelopment.

“The Board of Directors worked closely with expert advisors, our stakeholders, and the management team to analyze the opportunities that exist for The Admiral at the Lake under a variety of scenarios,” shared Board Chair Laura McKee. “With this new path forward, we will continue to provide elevated senior living services to older adults of Chicago as we have for more than 160 years.”

The team at the Chicago CCRC and The Kendal Corporation will work together to ensure a smooth transition, “embracing shared values of integrity and excellence,” according to a press release. The process will take place in incremental steps over the coming months while the Admiral’s Board will continue to explore the best ways to expand on the mission of supporting seniors and the strategic plan, as well as new efficiencies within its operations.

“Our mission has been sustained for generations by a commitment to continuous evolution,” said CEO Nadia Geigler. “It was that spirit that led The Admiral at the Lake to redevelop into the community we are today, and it is in that same spirit that we look forward to our vision of being Chicago’s community of choice for vibrant senior living.”

“We at The Kendal Corporation understand the need for change and growth, and we support The Admiral at the Lake’s decision,” said Amy Harrison, Kendal’s CFO/interim CEO. “Kendal continues its focus on service, support, innovation, and growth, both for Kendal-affiliated organizations as well as future partnerships.”

Founded in 1858, The Admiral at the Lake is Chicago’s first and longest-serving not-for-profit senior living community; it gets its name from the hotel that once occupied its site, a quarter mile from the shore of Lake Michigan. As a life-plan community, The Admiral offers a full continuum of health care services, including independent living, assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation.
